Apley Rise 1974-75

I joined this band when Becket split up, I replaced their original lead guitarist. The band was named after an orphanage in Westgate-on-Sea by bass player Keith Elliot, who had been working there as a carpenter. We supported Del Shannon and his band at 'The Island Club' in Leysdown, Isle of Sheppey and we had a great night meeting one of the all time rock n' roll heroes.

I enjoyed two good years with the band. We had loads of fun.

Pic: (Left to right): Me: lead guitar/vocals, Gary Cooper: rhythm guitar/vocals, Cliff Edwards: drums, Keith Elliot: bass/vocals.

Venues: Mainly clubs and a few pubs. Music: Country rock and 70's covers.

Cliff drove TIR lorries for big band touring concerts before his illness, he is now recovered and back behind his drum kit, re-forming with local Canterbury 60's band 'The Countdowns'. Gary has 'retired' and Keith married and moved to America where he played in a country rock band for a number of years. He returned to the UK and then became unwell with cancer and unfortunately has recently passed away.
